Yanick Briat

is a French artist who discovered her passion for painting while taking art classes at Crafton Hills College. She has participated in art expositions in California, France, and Japan.

Yanick likes to paint marine landscapes because they remind her of her birth town, but also natures and others. What Yanick represents in her paintings is not so much what she sees, but rather what she feels when she encounters something truly beautiful. To do so, she uses pallet knives and oil because she likes to feel the texture of the paint, its richness, its voluptuousness, and how colors combine together to create something new. Light is also something she enjoys working with because it transforms paintings.

Yanick sometimes designs paintings by thinking about them for a while and then by painting them quickly with minimum strokes. Pallet knives require spontaneous movements to obtain nice colors and shapes. However, other, more precise paintings, need more work to achieve subtle glazes, nuances, or translucent shades.
